Artists Open Studios at Phoenix Brighton is one of the most popular events in the arts calendar of the city, and it is absolutely free. Phoenix Brighton opens its doors for one weekend, allowing visitors a rare opportunity to come and see where the artists work. With over 100 studios in the building, there will be a diverse range of work on view including photography, film, ceramics, jewellery, painting, drawing, sculpture, design installation, performance and much more. It is a great way to encourage creativity in the city. Visitors can discuss working methods and techniques with the artists and then find out how they can get more involved.
There will be a chance to try out some of the new and regular arts courses run by Phoenix Brighton ('Taster Workshops' - see below) with vocal improvisation, manga art and making ceramic jewellery on the Saturday, and a special day of photography taster sessions on the Sunday to celebrate the Brighton Photo Biennial. Comment from Annie, a visitor at last years event: "I came to an experimental drawing workshop today and loved it. I was having such a good time it was over before I knew it. It has given me a lovely kick start that I needed. So, thanks Phoenix Brighton for providing the space. I just wanted to say thank you". Of course we also welcome the youngest visitors and the event could not take place with out the children’s art trail, which excites a new generation of budding young artists every year. ‘Monster Me’ will see your little ones exploring the studios and creating their own little monsters along the way. It is always more interesting to buy work directly from the maker and through the ‘OPENSHOP’ you will be able to purchase unique high quality art work for the perfect gift. Then stop and enjoy a relaxing break at the Phoenix Brighton café before heading home. Based in the heart of Brighton, Phoenix Brighton is the biggest artist run space in the South East and offers studio facilities to some the most talented and creative artists and makers in the region. The Artists’ Open Studios weekend gives the public the chance to come and meet professional artists in their studios and see new artwork.
