ARTISTS IN SPACE

Networking Event at Phoenix Brighton

Thursday 16 June 2011, 6 - 9pm

For artists in Brighton who need space to realize projects – come and tell us about them on Thursday.

CompARTment and Phoenix Brighton are hosting this event on Thurs 16th June at Phoenix 6 - 9pm in the Gallery. We are interested in creating the mechanism for artists to utilize empty spaces in the city for theatre, performance, studio space and galleries. First off we want to gauge interest from artists, so come along and give a quick  3-5 mins presentation of your idea.

From the networking evening we will collate your wonderful ideas to present to the council, councilors and property owners at our Brighton 'Artists’ in Space' Conference in November.

Empty space networks are springing up all over the country and some have been really successful in helping landlords access short term tenants, and artists access space which otherwise would have remained empty, unproductive and fallen into disrepair; instead these spaces have become vibrant creative centers for their communities and have often become the catalyst for regeneration projects.

Help us make this happen in Brighton.  Join our Facebook Group: artistsnetworkingevent and Follow this Link to Register! your place at the networking event (£2 charge).

Empty shops reused can support new business and old, give space to creative industry and social enterprise alike, and add art, culture, community and fun to our high streets. The team behind the Empty Shops Network have been using empty shops for ten years. Isn't it about time you had a go? Dan Thompson, Empty Shops Network founder, April 2011.
